The Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum is deeply saddened by the deadly shooting in Colorado Springs at Club Q, an LGBTQ+ nightclub. It came on the eve of the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance, started in 1999 to honor the memory of those lost to acts of anti-transgender violence.

Distressingly, there has been a dramatic increase in harsh rhetoric and legislation designed to marginalize and malign the LGBTQ+ community. It is heartbreaking that a place meant to provide refuge and affirmation became a target of horrific violence.

We mourn those killed in the attack, stand in solidarity with everyone affected, and remain firm in our commitment and belief that we all can combat hatred and its consequences by acknowledging the lessons of the past, embracing our differences, and most importantly, treating all human beings as valuable.
